Skin Care

I know this isn't my usual type of post but my blog is all about helping people and I think I can help some people with skin. And trust me when I say, I know what I'm talking about.

When I was in 5th grade I got these patches of pimples just on my cheeks. No where else, and then that went away, and I have a feeling it was because of how I was eating. I had a digestive disorder that I didn't know about and the food I was putting in my body.

Which brings me to my first point: What you put in your body is everything.

My acne came back when I was at the end of 7th grade. This time, it was everywhere but my cheeks (picture). I didn't think much of it, I didn't use any foundation makeup, I thought it was just a teenager thing. It was totally manageable, I hated looking at it, but I figured it could be a lot worse. I had my mom order Proactiv, you should have seen me the day it came in the mail; I was running around my house screaming!
As middle school progressed, so did my acne. It spread all over my face. And it didn't happen slowly: The black and white picture was Feb. 2007 and the color picture is Nov. 2007. See how fast it got bad? I was starting to develop an incredible amount of insecurity. Not only that, but I had to endure total harassment from my peers.

My Mom saw the toll it began to take on me, so she brought me to the dermatologist. He prescribed me antibiotics and cremes, nothing worked. Finally, he put me on Isotretinoin which is used to treat severe acne.

I was convinced it was the best thing that ever happened to me, but sadly, it got worse before it got better and with that, my lips were pealing and so was my face skin.

The treatment took about 6 months, I had to makes sure I took the pills when I was suppose to.
After 6 months it all went away!

This is me as a Junior in high school. I didn't get one pimple on my face for 3 months after Isotretinoin and then as I got pimples after that (and I still do) it is manageable and simple treatments help.
So, if you have bad acne, before seeing a dermatologist, I suggest:
1.) Drinking lots of water
2.) Change your pillowcase every week
3.) Stay away from greasy foods
4.) Wash your face before you go to bed
5.) Use a good toner
If these things don't work then see a dermatologist. And ask them about Isotretinoin.

In closing: Girls: Do not wash your face before applying makeup! Your pours are open and vulnerable and when they close up, they get clogged with your makeup and sprout a pimple. Wash your face before going to sleep to let your face breathe and then put it on the next day. Don't wash your face until the night, and absolutely do not skip a night, wash your face EVERY NIGHT.
