Years went by and I had watched it a few more times; I did not cry as much though, I was sort of numb to it. My heart ached when I watched it, but tears of repentance never ran down my face.
One day, at worship practice my youth pastor's wife (my hero) put it in a completely different perspective for me. She told me to look at what Jesus did and say "I did that" or "I deserve that" it will work on your heart in a totally new way.
Later on, I had looked up on YouTube a clip of the movie. An incredible overlook of his sacrifice of a song sent tears streaming down my face because I looked at it differently. I watched it and thought to myself "I deserve that" and "I did that." After that, every time I watch it, I cry uncontrollably.
I challenge you to do the same; Jesus died on the cross for you, think about it. It doesn't just mean he paid the debt that you couldn't afford, it also means that YOU DESERVE EVERYTHING HE GOT! If you think about that next time you watch the Passion of the Christ. I guarantee you'll be crying and asking for forgiveness because it will make your life seem like a walk on the park.
My Favorite verse is Hebrews 2:9 and it says
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
Jesus, who is above the angels made himself LOWER THAN THEM! That is just so amazing to me. Not only did Jesus pay the debt but he put himself lower than angels, in other words he came down to the lowest of low because he LOVES us that stinkin' much!
Believe me, watching the Passion with that kind of attitude will do wonders for your idea of repentance, because in that, you'll be truly sorry!
HE DIED, WITH YOU IN MIND.
From this day forward, I owe him my life. Because even though it is no where near good enough, I trust in his grace, but living the rest of my days is the least and the ONLY thing I can do!
