Humbled

One of my favorite shows in the entire world is Extreme Makeover Home Edition. I can honestly say that I haven't watched this show one time without crying, without fail I get teary-eyed and I am humbled from head to toe.
The way they pick the people they help is so particular; they don't pick families who live in bad conditions and sit around complaining or sit around not trying to do something about it. They pick families who either cannot provide for themselves and live in horrible surroundings, or people who ignore every obstacle to help others.
I've watched 3 episodes just today, it is in the background as I do homework and I have to say how humbling it is to even just hear. I take a look at my own situation, and this show not only motivates me to help others in need, but it makes me look at every positive aspect of my life.
I have 2 loving parents, I have 4 amazing siblings, I'm getting an education, I live for a God who will never leave my side, I've had a roof over my head since the day I was born, clothes on my back, I've never been starved, I could go on and on about the wonderful things in my life and I am constantly taking for granted.
This show has fathers who will cut off their own arm so they can stay around to provide for their family, single mothers who will still go out of their way to help others, people battling horrific diseases who will even still help others.
Yet me, I want to complain about anemia, asthma, and a digestive disorder. Things that are not life threatening. I want to complain that I don't have enough money in my wallet to go to the movies or go shopping. That I can't afford snow tires, or a brand new car. My ambitions in life include nothing but luxury while there are others who have ambitions to live as long as they can in their sickness to help others.
I really hope that by reading this you realize how good you have things. Facebook status' complaining about how you didn't get coffee this morning, or that you're "fat".
We cannot seem to stop and see that even if we're "not the weight we want to be" that we have SO MUCH! "I'm so ugly" when seriously, there are people out there who have terrible burns on their faces, or become paralyzed and cannot do things you and I can do.
There are people out there who are unable to go to college because of a disability yet we will skip school because we're "tired" or "lazy". There are people out there who don't have legs, they get artificial legs so they can run. There are people who want to be engineers, teachers, astronauts, firefighters, police officers, athletes, truck drivers, construction workers, actors, doctors, and so many other careers and they cannot. But there are people who are too lazy to achieve something like that because they don't want to do the work, yet there are disabled people who DREAM of doing things that you and I walk all over or glance at and ignore like college.
This isn't me telling you what to do, I am talking to myself too because I know that as a human we all overlook things that we are so fortunate to have! This is why I am writing this because I want to raise awareness to anyone that reads this by saying that it takes an effort to stop and see all the wonderful things that are available to us that are other peoples' dreams.
